Merry Christmas from 1st Lenzie Girls’ Brigade

Girls’ Brigade’s educational theme is ‘construction’ this year, so what could you ‘construct’ at Christmas? A gingerbread house of course!

First, so that every girl could take part with adequate supervision, we had a 'Baking at Home with Rhona' evening on Zoom, with every girl in their own kitchen, and parental supervision.

With Rhona’s expert tuition the girls made gingerbread pieces to a specific size and shape using a template. Everyone had fun going through the various stages of adding and mixing the ingredients together, rolling out the dough and cutting it to size. The pieces had to be quite thick to be strong enough for the construction. The bonus was that there was plenty of extra dough which could be used to make gingerbread shapes or frozen to use later.

Once baked, the girls cooled their house sections and brought them to Girls' Brigade the following week to construct into gingerbread houses. Help with sticking the sections together was provided, as well as a large quantity of royal icing (thanks to Rhona!). Then everyone went wild with their decorations! You can see all their original designs in the pictures.
